I took the reference photos for this piece at a park near Petoskey, Michigan in summer of 2007. I put together a class project with it and painted it with some students in February 2009. The progress of this particular painting is on my blog. It is a sweet, little piece full of fond memories of a wonderful summer in Michigan.
